What is Decentralized Digital Identity in the Web3 World? (And What's the Difference Between It and Your Regular Identity)

What is Decentralized Digital Identity in the Web3 World? (And What's the Difference Between It and Your Regular Identity)

For over 10 years, I've been working in the tech field. I thought I understood everything there is to know about the internet. But it wasn't until recently that I truly understood the meaning of "digital identity," after I started feeling a bit concerned about my personal data. Have you ever felt like everything you do online is being monitored, and that your data isn't really yours? I used to think this was normal, until I discovered a new world that promises us complete control over our identity.

An illustrative drawing showing a person sitting in front of a computer, surrounded by cybersecurity and privacy symbols, holding a golden key that represents control over digital identity.

What is Decentralized Digital Identity in the Web3 World?

Imagine for a moment that your online identity is like your suitcase. In the current web system (Web2), every company (Facebook, Google, Twitter) has a copy of your suitcase. Every time you visit a new site, you open your suitcase to them and give them everything inside. You don't control who sees what, or when.

As for Decentralized Digital Identity (DID) in the Web3 world, it's more like your own private passport that no one can see without your explicit permission. You own this passport, and you alone decide who gets access to any part of your information, when, and for what purpose. It's an identity built on blockchain technology, where there is no "head office" or "government" controlling it. You are the master of your data.

This is the same technology that cryptocurrencies rely on, which we talked about in a previous article about the future of money.

The Difference Between Centralized and Decentralized Identity: The Struggle for Control

Freedom from Centralized Control: An illustration of a person holding a golden key after breaking free from tangled data.

To understand this more clearly, let's compare:

Centralized Identity (What We Use Today): This is the identity you use when you sign up for Facebook, Google, or even when using a government system like "Absher." Your data is stored on the servers of these companies or entities. They are the ones who decide whether to share your data with third parties (for advertising purposes, for example), and they are the ones who control access to it. In a worst-case scenario, if these servers are hacked, all your data is at risk. Here, you are just a "user" of their services.

Decentralized Identity (The Future of Web3): Here, your data is encrypted and distributed across a blockchain network. There is no single entity that controls it. You use a Private Key to access your data, and you alone can grant permission to access a specific part of it. For example, if a website wants to prove you are over 18, you can do so without revealing your full date of birth. This is the true meaning of privacy and control.

Why Is It Important? (And Why Should You Care About It Now?)

This isn't just a complex technical concept; this is a radical shift in our relationship with the internet.

  • Superior Security: Since your data isn't stored in one place, it's very difficult to hack... This significantly reduces the threats we previously discussed in methods for scanning and removing viruses.

  • Complete Privacy: Goodbye to advertising companies that chase you! You are the one who decides who sees which part of your data, and for what purpose. You can browse and interact with complete privacy.

  • E-commerce and Digital Services: In the near future, you will be able to log in to websites, make transactions, and even vote using your decentralized digital identity, all securely and without needing an intermediary.

  • Building Trust: Imagine a world where you don't need to trust companies or governments to protect your data. Trust is built into the technology itself.

Article Conclusion

When I started to delve into understanding decentralized digital identity, I felt a mix of surprise and hope. It's not just a new technology, but a revolution in how we think about privacy and control in our digital lives. Does this mean the end of centralized digital identity? Perhaps not entirely, but it certainly means the future holds stronger and safer options for us.

Understanding Google Pay: The Evolution of Seamless Digital Payments

What began as "Pay with Google," a forward-thinking initiative launched by Google, has seamlessly evolved into Google Pay, the unified digital payment platform we widely use today. Back in May 2017, Google introduced its Google Payment API, exciting users with a promise of significantly simplifying the online checkout experience for consumers. Initially, these powerful tools were exclusive to beta program participants, allowing select merchants to offer a much smoother way for customers to input their payment details during purchases. Now, this convenience is universal, extended to a vast network of online retailers.

Google officially launched "Pay with Google" to streamline payment processes across Android devices and a rapidly growing number of e-commerce businesses online. This new payment technology effortlessly simplifies shopping and payments for various services and subscriptions through a few easy steps. The innovative service wasn't confined to mobile; it was also integrated with the Google Chrome browser on desktop devices. Consumers benefit from a streamlined payment method that provides automatic filling of required data and shipping information, making purchases possible with just a few clicks.

In its early stages, "Pay with Google" first rolled out in the United States, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, partnering with major platforms such as Airbnb, Deliveroo, Instacart, Kayak, Fancy, HotelTonight, StubHub, JustEat, and Papa John's. This service marked a significant departure from Android Pay. While Android Pay required companies to integrate the application within their own apps, "Pay with Google" was inherently designed for automatic, seamless, and time-saving transactions, offering a smoother user experience.

Today, Google Pay stands as the complete realization of that vision. It’s a unified platform that combines the best of both "Pay with Google" and the original Android Pay, offering a consistent and convenient way to pay online, in apps, and in physical stores. This platform automatically handles time-consuming payment and shipping details, ensuring a hassle-free and swift checkout process. Looking ahead, Google continues to push boundaries, with ambitions to enable peer-to-peer money transfers via voice commands, a feature that has already seen significant development through integrations with Google Assistant.

In essence, Google Pay has matured into an indispensable tool for modern commerce, providing a fast, secure, and user-friendly method for managing digital transactions across the globe.

Speed up Windows: 5 magical steps for a device that boots up in seconds!

Speed up Windows: 5 magical steps for a device that boots up in seconds!

Image of a desktop computer displaying a green speed indicator with a rocket launching and a check mark emoji, symbolizing the accelerated startup of Windows 10 and 11 and the successful performance of the computer.

Do you feel that your computer is slow when starting up?

Are you tired of waiting for the Windows operating system

to be ready, which takes a long time?

There is no need to worry about this anymore! We will provide you with a comprehensive guide of 5 proven steps to significantly speed up the startup of Windows 10 and Windows 11, which will eliminate your boredom and give you a fast operating system without waiting.

Follow the steps below and you will notice that you have a rocket-fast device in a few seconds!

1-Activate a secret feature called “Fast Startup”

The Fast Startup feature in Windows combines two essential features at the same time: hibernation and startup. Many people overlook it, even though it is a magical solution for speeding up the startup of your device.

How to activate Fast Startup?

Go to the Control Panel.

Find Power Options.

From the side menu, click on Choose what the power buttons do.

Then click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Check the box next to “Turn on fast startup (recommended)” and save the changes.

2- Stop programs from starting up

Many programs and applications automatically allow themselves to run when the system starts up, which slows down the system at the beginning. We must stop unnecessary programs from running at startup to free the system from restrictions and get good results!

Here's how:

Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc

From the menu, go to Startup

Check the programs that are running in the background and uncheck the boxes next to non-essential programs, such as cloud storage programs, file format conversion programs, and others.

3-Clean and optimize your hard drive.

With frequent use of the computer and the length of time the system is running, temporary files are continuously stored, in addition to cookies from websites when browsing. This affects the overall performance of the device and its speed in particular, so the disk or hard drive must be cleaned of these unnecessary files periodically to maintain the health and safety of your device and keep it running smoothly!

Steps to clean your hard drive of unnecessary files!

From the Start menu, search for Disk Cleanup.

Select the drive where the system is located, which is usually the C: drive, and click OK.

Select all the unnecessary file types you want to delete (such as “Temporary files”, “Recycle Bin”, “Temporary Internet Files”) and click OK to confirm the deletion.

Next, the other part of the task is defragmentation.

Go to the Start menu again and search for Defragment and Optimize Drives.

Select the same partition c: and click OK. This is necessary for HDD hard drives and has no value for SSD hard drives.

4- Update the definitions on the system

Outdated definitions and outdated system definitions can cause significant system slowdowns, so be sure to regularly obtain the latest versions of the definitions.

To update, follow these steps

Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and check the definitions of your cards, such as the sound card, video card, and network card, which are the most important basic definitions.

To update Windows: Go to Settings, then Update & Security, then Windows Update. Make sure the latest updates for the operating system are installed.

5-Manage unnecessary services: to reduce the load on the system.

There are many services in Windows that run in the background, some of which are essential and necessary for Windows to function, while others are unnecessary and not used by most people.

You can disable unnecessary services by following these steps:

Press Windows + R to open the Run window, then type msconfig and press Enter.

Go to Services.

First, you must take this important step, which is to check the Hide all Microsoft services option so that you do not disable services that are necessary for the system to function.

You can now review the remaining services and disable those that you know are unnecessary for you (such as third-party software services that you do not use). Be careful and do not disable a service whose function you do not know.

Important tips:

Replace your HDD hard disk with an SSD, which is 10 times faster than the old hard disk.

Also, try deleting the Temp files by typing %temp% in the Run menu, selecting the files by pressing ctrl+a, and deleting them permanently by pressing shift+delete. Also delete the Prefetch files by going to partition C: Go to the Windows folder, search for the folder, and delete all the files inside it, as this will speed up the system during use.

Conclusion:

Once you apply these five effective steps, you will notice a dramatic improvement in the speed of your Windows startup. Now enjoy a device that starts up in the blink of an eye and saves you time and effort. Try these solutions now and share your experience with us!
